Katherine Englishman

Katherine Englishman is a freelance writer who has spent the last seven years covering the outdoors, travel, wellness, and design — both product and architecture. She’s worked with leading brands across the outdoor and lifestyle industries, including L.L. Bean, West Elm, DEN Outdoors, Maine Outdoor Brands, among others, and has been published on Outside Online, LIVESTRONG, Field Mag, Well + Good, REI, and Maine Magazine. She also contributed an essay on low-impact homes for Parklife Hideaways, a hardcover book by Parks Project made in collaboration with Gestalten Publishing House.

After discovering a love for copywriting and technical product design while working at Lululemon Athletica after college, she developed a keen understanding and an eye for goods that are made to last, designed to enhance an experience, and when consumed mindfully, reduce waste.

Since then, she has cut her teeth as copywriter in New York and Brooklyn writing about everything from furniture to food, and parlayed that experience into a freelance writing career that has taken her from coast to coast, working on multimedia campaigns with Visit California, testing product and gear in the Mountain West, and writing travel narratives about overnight sea kayaking sojourns to Maine islands.

In addition to writing, she is a registered yoga teacher (RYT 500) who has been practicing for nearly a decade and teaching for over six years. She has more than 1,000 hours of training, including certifications in Vinyasa and Hatha yoga, prenatal, postnatal, and kids yoga, and is continuing her education with a certification in the therapeutic application of yoga. Occasionally, she gets in front of the camera—creating sport-specific yoga videos for Hyperlite Mountain Gear, hosting a how-to layer for changing seasons short for L.L.Bean, and co-hosted an episodic travel series for Maine Magazine.

Today, she is a full-time freelance writer, yoga teacher, and mom, who lives in coastal Maine with her husband, daughter, tripod pup, and four chickens. She’s an avid skier, surfer, hiker, and cyclist, which are all outdoor activities she can do practically right outside her doorstep in the beautiful Pine Tree state.
