The Adirondacks were practically made for glamping.

Ah, glamping…making camping more comfortable, one fancy outdoor abode at a time. Trade-in that air mattress and cold, hard ground, for a cushy bed and soft rug, at the end of a long day’s romp in the woods. Relish in the best of both worlds — slumber under the stars while still charging your phone so you can capture the next day’s adventures.

From decked-out canvas tents to more unique lodging options like treehouses, the Adirondacks offers a variety of glamping options. With options ranging from rustic lean-to’s “en plein air” that fit more into the camping category, to options with all the creature comforts that definitely err on the glamorous side of things.

Enjoy the outdoors without giving up amenities in these 8 amazing Adirondack glamping properties.

Why you should stay: Create your own glamping retreat.

  • Location: Johnsburg, NY
  • Sleeps: 2-4
  • Minimum stay: 2-3 nights depending on dates
  • Rates from: $265/night

Head to Camp Orenda where camping and cuisine come together in Adirondack harmony. Book a stay in one of the camp’s 6 luxury canvas tents where you can embrace the Adirondack backcountry with down comforters and charging outlets. Luxury isn’t just for the accommodations here; everything including food, beverage, and activities is taken care of for you. With tents of varying sizes and features, it’s easy to choose the right fit for your stay. The rustic Adirondack decor will have you feeling hugged by the outdoors in the most authentic way.

Though it will be hard to leave your cozy tent, the common areas, and outdoor mountain playground will be calling. Enjoy meals in the “open-air Backcountry Kitchen” that have been lovingly curated and prepared over an open flame, as well as adult beverages from the wet bar. (You can expect three-course meals vs. burgers and hot dogs here.) The bathhouse brings outhouses to shame, with heated toilet seats and an outdoor shower with all the fixings. The real pièce de résistance though has to be the handcrafted stone fire pit where Adirondack-style relaxation is mandatory.

Camp Orenda will help put together the perfect itinerary to explore this region of the Adirondacks; hiking, canoeing, swimming, mountain biking, and fishing are just some of the options to immerse yourself in nature here. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the 40-acre grounds if you choose to hit the onsite trails or try your hand at archery. If you want to pop into a class Adirondack town, North Creek is just a fifteen-minute drive from the property, with restaurants,  shops, and a museum.

  • Location: Lake Placid, NY
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

The Adirondack Camping Yurt is located in one of the best spots to explore the High Peaks region and is a budget-friendly rental, to boot. You’ll find this large yurt on the Heart Lake Loj property, part of the Adirondack Mountain Club, which is usually used for educational outdoor programs.

If you’re lucky enough to snag it during the days it’s not being used, pat yourself on the back for booking a spot where you can roll out of your bunk bed, directly onto the trails. Bring your own bedding and don’t expect ultra-luxury, however, this spacious yurt is anything but basic because of its prime location…and heat, and lights. A wash house, picnic table, and fire pit are all available to use on the campground as well, which is perfect after a long day of hiking.

Hiking is what you come for here in the High Peaks. Start slow with a 1.2-mile loop trail around beautiful Heart Lake, and a 2.4-mile trek up Mount Jo, where you’ll be rewarded with iconic views above the lake. Now that you’ve warmed up, take your hiking boots up one of the High Peaks, such as Algonquin, the second-highest peak in New York, and Mt. Marcy, a 14.8-mile hike that will have you thanking your lucky stars for sleeping in close proximity to the trailhead. Dream of the 360-degree views you’ll witness from the comfort of the Adirondack Camping Yurt.

If you want to get your fix of an iconic Olympic town, Lake Placid is an easy 20-minute drive where you’ll find plenty to do by way of the Olympic Center, scenic Mirror Lake, restaurants, and shops.
